The story

Erkan is a single-clan village of the Chen family whose courtyard houses are built of basalt, coral stone and red brick; it was Penghu's first designated traditional settlement preservation area. Clan members who made their fortunes as merchants and doctors elsewhere came home to build the grand Chen family houses. Villagers now run small shops selling almond tea and herbal products.
