The story

Known locally as 'inside the street', Central Street grew up behind the Penghu Tianhou Temple, Taiwan's oldest Mazu temple, after the Qing took the islands; merchants clustered here from the Qianlong era, making it Penghu's first commercial street. Relics like the Four-Eyed Well, Shi Lang Shrine and Wanjun Well survive among houses built of red brick, timber and coral stone. Today many old houses sell local snacks and souvenirs, making it Magong's favourite stroll.
