The story

Boai Road in Xincheng boomed during the Liwu River gold rush, then faded as mining ended and Highway 9 was rerouted. Its Xincheng Photo Studio dates from the Japanese era and has recently been at the centre of a debate over road widening. Nearby, Xincheng Catholic Church stands on the site of a Shinto shrine, with the torii gate still at its entrance.
