Wugoushui was the first Hakka settlement in Taiwan designated for protection under the Cultural Heritage Act, named for the springs and channels fed by underground water. Its ornate Liu Ancestral Hall and many courtyard homes surround Xisheng Road, the village's old street. There are few shops; it is for slow walks among Hakka architecture and water.
