Baihe was once "Dianzaikou" (at the shop's door), said to come from a cold-drink stall where hill and farm produce was traded 200 years ago. Sitting on fault lines, the town has been rebuilt after several earthquakes, so little old architecture remains; summer lotus season is its busiest time.
