Developed as a spa by the Japanese, Guanziling is one of Taiwan's four classic hot springs and famous for its grey mud baths. Its hillside street and stepped lanes link inns and shops; quieter than its heyday, it still draws visitors for clay-jar roast chicken and the springs.
