The story
Guide Street runs next to the Dadaocheng wharf; after the port opened in the late Qing it was where foreign trading houses and tea merchants clustered, later part of Japanese-era Minatochō. Tea magnate Chen Tian-lai's Jinji Tea House mansion is its showpiece, a display of export-tea wealth. Quieter than Dihua Street, it suits an unhurried architecture walk.
