The story

The name Lizejian comes from a Kavalan village name meaning 'resting place'. In the Qing era its landing on the Dongshan River made it a freight hub and an administrative seat, but overland transport later drained its trade and the name was shortened to Lize. Every Lantern Festival, young men carry palanquins at a run from the 1920 Lisheng Clinic at one end of the street to Yong'an Temple at the other in the 'running gods' ritual.
