The story

Shennong Street, once Beishi Street, ran along the north bank of one of Tainan's Five Canals; ground floors were shops and upper floors warehouses where goods were hoisted straight from the boats. The Medicine King Temple at its end honours Shennong, and Jinhua Temple served the dockworkers. Its two-storey wooden houses now hold cafés, bars and galleries, best seen lit by lanterns at night.
