The story
At the northern end of Tainan's Five Canals, ships returning from mainland China used coral rock as ballast and dumped it beside this street—hence the name "Old Coral Stone Street". Duiyue Gate, built in 1835 as part of the outer city wall, still stands at its head and is still used by traffic.
