The story

Suehirocho was the heart of Japanese-era Tainan; the 1932 Hayashi Department Store—southern Taiwan's first, with a rooftop shrine and a rare lift—and matching shophouse rows turned Zhongzheng Road into "Tainan Ginza". After decades of decline, Hayashi reopened in 2014 and revived the street.
