The story
Old Beitou predates the hot-spring resort area of Xinbeitou. In the Japanese era, the many hot-spring inns needed daily supplies, and stalls clustered here; Beitou Market remains one of Taipei's largest retail markets, its upstairs food court a local favourite. Most buildings are rebuilt, so it is best as a food stop after a soak.
