The story
Checheng, once Chaicheng, was one of the earliest Han settlements on the Hengchun Peninsula. After the 1867 Rover incident, Qing general Liu Mingdeng garrisoned troops here, and a stele at Fu'an Temple records the treaty with US consul Le Gendre. Fu'an claims to be Taiwan's largest Earth God temple and the streets around it are known for mung bean soup. Road widening has left few old buildings.
