The story
Dapu is Chiayi County's least populated township, once lively with a sugar mill and cinema. When the Zengwen Reservoir was built in the 1970s, villagers dismantled bamboo-frame houses from the valley floor and carried them uphill to rebuild; the few that survive on the old street recall that move. Today the area is known for dried bamboo shoots and fish-head casserole.
