The story

Guanxi, once called Xiancaiweng ('pickle jar'), is a Hakka hill town along the Fengshan River, renamed in the Japanese era. The Shidianzi old street, billed as Taiwan's shortest Zhongzheng Road, keeps Taihe Temple's shard mosaics, Japanese-era dormitories and an old cinema, and young residents now run small bookshops and art spaces. Grass jelly, of which Guanxi grows a large share of Taiwan's crop, is the local must-try.
