The story

Xinpu's old quarter of Zhongzheng Road, Heping Street and Chenggong Street, with six lanes and nine Hakka ancestral halls, is known as 'three streets, six lanes, nine halls'. The oldest, the Fan family hall, dates from 1858, and such a density of clan halls is rare in Taiwan. Road widening removed many shophouses, but autumn's wind-dried persimmons and the nearby Yimin Temple still draw visitors.
