Jinguashi was one of Asia's major gold and copper mines in the Japanese era, and Qitang Old Street served miners' families with a theatre, grocers and eateries. After the mines closed most residents left; the stone steps, stone houses and wooden homes remain, far quieter than Jiufen. The Gold Museum and the giant Guan Gong statue at Quanji Temple are the main sights nearby.
