Linyuan was once called Linzaibian, renamed during the 1920 street reforms. On Fuxing Street the Dinglinzaibian police station of 1898, the area's first, is now a municipal monument open as a history classroom. The street hosts a busy morning market, and the lane opposite once held Linyuan's first cinema, the Linyuan-za.
