The story
Liugui's name is said to come from turtle-shaped hills or from the Pingpu word 'Lakuri'. In the Japanese era forestry and mountain development made it a transport hub. On Huanan Street the Ikedaya inn keeps its tatami rooms and closets remarkably intact, and the Hong Kunyuan store recalls prosperous days. Only a few old shops remain; the area is known for wax apples.
