The story
Neiwei is an old settlement below Mt. Chai, cleared by Han settlers and Pingpu people in the Qing era, with the Li clan among its founders. Taiwan's first cement plant was built nearby in the Japanese era, bringing industry and residents. Today the old street is mostly a traditional market and homes; the Neiwei Arts Center, opened in 2022, draws some new visitors.
