Puzi grew around Peitian Temple, said to have begun as a Mazu shrine beneath a hackberry (pu) tree. Kaiyuan Road still has a near-century-old cloth shop, a pharmacy founded in 1921, and 1930s mixed-style buildings such as the Qingmu House café, Rixin Clinic and the shuttered Rongchang Theatre. Lantern Festival brings the temple's famous imperial lantern displays.
