The story

After floods ravaged Bengang in 1803, residents carried their Mazu statue to Mayuanliao and founded Xingang and Fengtian Temple, now a major Mazu centre and the terminus of the Dajia Mazu pilgrimage. The temple-front streets serve pilgrims with old confectioners, notably the peanut-maltose "Xingang candy".
