Zhonggang, at the mouth of the Zhonggang River, was a bustling Qing-era trading port, with Minsheng and Bade roads as its core, and later an important centre of joss-paper making. As the harbour silted up, business moved to the Zhunan railway area and the old street became a quiet neighbourhood. Ciyu Temple's Dragon Boat Festival 'harbour cleansing' rite is a notable folk event, and the restored Chen family house nearby is known for its decorative tile wall.
