The story
Dawu sits where the South-Link route reaches the east coast. In the 1960s loggers filled its old street, which had several inns, the largest cinema in southern Taitung, a rice mill and fish-fry wholesalers. As logging declined and Highway 9 bypassed the town, trade drained away and many houses now stand empty. The community now runs walking routes telling stories of the Yang family rice mill and Swiss nuns who served here.
