Taishan was once called 'Shanjiao', criss-crossed by irrigation ditches; the street along the ditch edge became 'Gouzaiqian'. It ties into the rise of Taishan Temple, Mingzhi Academy and the old tea route, and was one of the area's first market streets. Now renamed Lane 256, Mingzhi Road Sec. 1, it has almost no shops, just a few old houses and decorative paving.
