The story
The Hanxi area grew up around Lecheng Temple, a Mazu temple founded in the Qianlong era of the Qing dynasty, whose annual pilgrimage through the 'eighteen villages of Datun' has run for nearly two centuries. Almost all the old shophouses have been rebuilt, so today the draw is the temple and the snacks around it rather than the streetscape.
