The story

Beimen Street is Hsinchu's oldest commercial street, where the guild merchants of Qing-era Zhuqian gathered, running north from the City God Temple past Changhe Temple. Changhe Temple was built by these merchants, and the street also has the ancestral hall of the scholar Zheng Yongxi's family and old merchant houses like Zhou Yiji. Facades mix Minnan, Japanese-era and postwar styles, and with new cafés and the City God Temple food scene nearby it makes a great eating-and-walking route.
