The story

The Qing railway built by Liu Ming-chuan stopped here at the 'Dahukou' station, and the town flourished; in the Japanese era it was rebuilt into today's uniform red-brick arcades. When the line was rerouted and the station moved away, trade declined, which in turn preserved the facades. Sanyuan Temple, a county monument, stands on the street, and the old Catholic church was built on the site of the former station.
