The story
Jingtong boomed around 1937 thanks to the Shidi coal mine and was called the 'Ginza of Jingtong Pit'. When the mine closed in 1975 it declined fast, and the untouched houses now give a nostalgic streetscape. The Japanese-era wooden station, bamboo wish tubes and TV-drama shoots made it a favourite stop on the Pingxi Line.
