The story
Shiding was a waypoint on the old route to Yilan and grew rich on tea and coal. East Street keeps a stretch of 'Bujiantian', a covered street whose roofs join overhead, plus stilt houses and stone dwellings along the creek. With mining gone, the town is quiet and authentic, with a few old houses reborn as small shops.
