The story
Zhongnan Street formed in the late Qing as one of Nangang's first streets. In the Japanese era coal was hauled by push-car to Nangang station, and once the Taipei–Keelung road opened this perpendicular lane became the 'cross street'. It has rice shops and watchmakers, and the Nangang Presbyterian Church traces back to Mackay's mission in 1874. Urban renewal is steadily removing the old houses.
