The story
'Xikou' comes from an indigenous word for a river bend, describing the Keelung River's meander here; it was a Qing-era river transshipment point, renamed Matsuyama (Songshan) in 1920. Ciyou Temple, founded around 1753, anchors the old settlement and today opens onto Raohe Night Market. Little old architecture remains; come for the temple and the food.
