The story

Qingshui was called Gumatou until 1920, when it was renamed after a clear spring beneath Aofeng Hill. Before Zhongshan Road was cut through, the 'big street' in front of Ziyun Temple was the town's commercial heart, home to the wealthy Tsai family and their trading houses. Today the old streets are mostly residential, but the town's dozens of sticky-rice (migao) shops are a reason to stop.
