Perched above Meishan's 36 hairpin bends, Taiping village grew as a collection point for mountain tea and bamboo shoots, leaving a short old street. Visitor numbers soared after the Taiping Suspension Bridge opened in 2017, yet many tourists cross the bridge and leave without discovering the street.
