Xiluo sits on the banks of the Zhuoshui River and has been a rice-trading town since the Qing. Yanping Road was rebuilt in the Japanese era and retains a long stretch of baroque, Minnan and Japanese-style shopfronts, among the best preserved in Yunlin. The town is famous for black-bean soy sauce, with old breweries on the street, and the nearby Xiluo Bridge was once the longest in the Far East.
